i purchased a hot tub 3 years ago from a company who declared themselves bankrupt and then set themselves up again as a different company, the spa is leaking ,i think from a jet housing, can you recommend any repairers in the Essex or surrounding areas, i am struggling to find somebody,thank-you

  2. Nick Clamp, May 12, 2007:

    Hi Ian
Your supplier unfortunately went into liquidation last year as you say, so we suggest that you contact a couple of companies for advice and quotations. The first is East Essex Pool Care who are local to you at:
    89 Harwich Road
    Little Clacton
    Clacton-on-Sea
    Essex
    CO16 9NE
    Tel: 01255 861084

and also a hot tub service company called AquaCareUK…they are a company that specializes in fixing tubs nationwide and were specialist engineers for a large UK hot tub manufacturer before setting up their own service company. Speak to Andy Rothwell on 07977193180

    Thanks
    Nick

    Hi there,

I have a problem that’s leaving me confused. Since new my hottub (complete with factory installed ozonator) has never produced bubbles from the ozonator. The dealer who supplied it has tried changing all sorts of new bits, none of which has made any difference. He now tells me that ozonators can be working properly without producing any visible bubbles, and I should stop worrying. Every other dealer, hot tub expert etc I contact tells me that if a gas is passed through water it MUST produce visible bubbles. I don’t know what to do. Can you help?

    Thanks.

    Hi

I have a Spaform Atlantis and have in the past had a problem with the pump1 starting. This was rectified by fitting a new motor start capacitor. I couldn’t get the exact value but a close match seemed to solve the problem and after fitting all worked perfectly. Due to a recent house move the tub has been out of action recently. I have just powered it up and all seemed ok except now the 2nd cycle of pump1 shuts down after only a few mins. Any ideas what could cause this?

    Many thanks

  5. Nick Clamp, June 11, 2007:

    Hi
Do you mean the 2nd filter cycle shuts down after 2 mins or do you mean it is a 2 stage pump and it shuts down after being on for 2 mins on full power?
    Nick

  6. Trevor, July 18, 2007:

Hi I have a Canadian Spa, it was running fine before I did a water change. When I refilled it, I did not fill via filter location. Jets 1 works fine (two stage). Jets 2 tries to start (small amount of water comes out of jets before stopping. I thought I might have caused an airlock so emptied the spa and refilled via filter location but the same is still happening. Any suggestions?

    Thanks

  7. Nick Clamp, July 18, 2007:

    Hi Trevor
Does the pump sound like it is pumping water or is it just humming. If it is just humming it is likely to be the capacitor that has blown which is preventing the pump from getting started.

If is trying to pump water then it is more likely to be a blockage or a problem with the wet end of the pump.

Contact Canadian Spa Co in Crawley on 0800 980 1999 or 01293 522266 for more advice and parts.

    Hope this helps
    Nick

  8. Trevor, July 19, 2007:

Nick, thank you for responding. The pump starts for about 4-6 seconds (i.e. a bit of water comes out), then hums before stopping. I noticed it was getting quite hot so I have disconnected it from the controller. Could it be an air lock or something more? It is still under warrenty, but if they come out and it is just an air block I will get charged. Thanks again.

  9. Nick Clamp, July 19, 2007:

    Hi Trevor
The pump may have a bleed valve on the side of it which you can also use to drain the pump if you emptying the spa in winter to prevent freezing of water inside the pump. Try loosening the valve with the pump running to see if any air bleeds out. This should answer your question re air locks but it sounds unlikely to me.

  10. James, July 25, 2007:

Hi, I left the water in my tub over the winter when it failed and have only recently got it fixed. it all runs fine but when you turn on the blowers or jets there are a number of small leaks around the jet hoses and tubing joints. Is this easily fixed by a diy type compound or do I need a specialist to visit? Its a 4 yr old Aegean 2200 spa

  11. Nick Clamp, July 27, 2007:

    Hi James
I wouldn’t recommend a heath robinson fix as this may cause problems in future if you ever have to disassemble the joints for any reason. Contact Aegean at http://www.tubstore.com to find out what they recommend.

  12. Dave Boyle, July 27, 2007:

Hi, my hot tub came from Canada about 18months ago, but about three months ago, it stopped and wont turn on -with no power to the control panel? I have used a volt meter and tracked where the supply stops. It has a contactor (which I presume is to assist to start pumps or motors) There is power in but the circuit does not close to give power out. I am sure there must be a simple answer, I have changed the coil to no effect. Any ideas? Thanks

  13. trafpol1, July 28, 2007:

Hi, I have a canadian ? tub. It has been great but a few months ago just stopped. No power to control panel etc. I have used voltmeter and traced where power stops. It has a contactor-I presume to start pumps – this has power in but none out as contact isnt made. I have changed coil to no avail. It has various power leads in and one that goes elsewhere. Do you think its something else not triggering this device? Thanks for any help

  14. Nick Clamp, July 31, 2007:

    Hi Dave

What is make and model of your hot tub? Where did you buy it from and have you contacted your retailer? Most hot tubs on the market come with 2 years warranty cover on electronics so if so this will be covered.

It is difficult to diagnose without knowing more details about the tub and the type of controls used. What does it say on the front of the load box?

  15. Dave Boyle, September 30, 2007:

Hi, sorry for delay. The spa is a “Wizard” Ive never heard of them and cant find any info on the web. I bought it from the internet. It was fine until it just stopped one day. It is getting power but where it splits from the contactor no power gets through. As I said I think the contactor is there to assist starting heater/pumps but I think it needs to close the circuit to do this but I dont think it is doing it – no power getting to control panel. Whats the load box? I may find what you want. Any engineers in Surrey you can recommend? Thanks.

I have had my hot tub for just 3 years and am having a problem with the jets coming loose and floating. I am the only one using the tub and I don’t open and close them. Why would they be coming off?

  19. Ady Lloyd, May 14, 2008:

Hi, I have a Spa form Rio Bravo hot tub that is 4yrs old and 12 of the grey storm jet covers have fallen off. I cannot get them to fit back into their housings and stay on. they do not appear broken, any advice would be appreciated?

  20. Nick Clamp, May 15, 2008:

    Hi Ady

This is a Certikin branded spa and there have apparently been some issues with these particular jets. The jet design has now been changed to resolve the issue. For more information and/or replacement jets speak to Darren Waters at Spafix.

I have a Master Spa Hottub that I bought used I have to add about 2″ of water to it every other day does that mean theres a leak or is that normal??????

  27. Nick Clamp, November 12, 2008:

    Hi Wanda
With that level of water loss you are likely to have a leak. Is there any visible water coming from the bottom of the spa on any of the 4 sides? You might want to take the front cabinet panel off and have a look inside to see if you can see any water or dampness on the inside of the floor area.

  28. Wanda Hollis, November 12, 2008:

I have a Master Spa Hottub that I bought used I have to add about 2″ of water to it every other day does that mean theres a leak or is that normal??????

  29. Wanda Hollis, November 12, 2008:

I see it’s wet on the ground on the one side, someone said to empty it and raise it on milk crates, fill it up again and see where its leaking but it’s all spray foamed so how will we know where the leak is coming from

  30. Wanda Hollis, November 12, 2008:

when we set it up the filter wasn’t in correctly and the touchpad said there was a problem with the filter, we then it keeps reading that the filters need to be changed….. could it be leaking from the filter not being in correctly?

  31. Nick Clamp, November 12, 2008:

    Hi Wanda
What you need to do is take the front cabinet panel off, look for visible leaks firstly in the equipment bay at the front of the spa which won’t be foamed. Check pump unions, heater…basically anywhere where there is a joint between pipework and a piece of equipment. With the level of water loss that you have, a leak should be pretty self-evident if it is in the equipment bay. If there is no leak inside this area start to take the side panels off one by one. Feel the foam from the bottom up and check for dampness. Once you find an area of wet foam, start to scoop out the soft foam until you reach an area where you can feel hot water. This is where the leak is…clean all of the foam from that area and you should then be able to see the leak which could be coming from jet back. Of course what you could also do is to turn the power to the spa off for a few days and let the water level keep dropping. It will only fall the level of the leak. This will give you a good idea how far up the spa the leak is. Then just a question of finding it. Refill and follow the procedure above to find hot water inside the foam. Once the leak is located and fixed you can then refoam with specialist foam (local spa dealers should be able to supply the refoaming equipment) or you could always use conventionale loft insulation to refill the gap.

  32. Nick Clamp, November 12, 2008:

Not likely to be leaking from the filter area but this is one of the areas that you can check inside the cabinet

  33. Steve Symonds, June 10, 2009:

I have a Spaform Mardi Gras. When I put the blower on it will run its normal cycle then turn off. The problem is it won’t turn on again for a few hours. If you turn it off prior to the end of its cycle and turn it on again it will run another full cycle (and if you catch it like this it will run indefinately). What could be causing this problem?

  34. Craig, August 25, 2009:

Hi, I have a haliburton canadian spa. It was all working great but recently after an hour or so of working it displays an FL code? I thought it may have been the filters but have fitted new ones and still get the same problem. Any ideas?

  35. Drew, June 13, 2010:

I own an older model Balboa (93) with a newer Century lazer 3 hp pump. digital control panel.
The problem is about once a week the panel shows the word FLO..you can hear the motor trying to start..then stops because of the “overheat” protection mode on motor.sounds like the pump is jammed. Have had the wet end completey apart can not see anything …motor spins freely in both directions. If I turn the power off and leave it for a day, I can power it back up and it will run fine (on Both speeds)for aweek to 10 days then occurr again, any Ideas?
    thank you

Hi, i have a spaform 4000 series hot tub and am having trouble with pump 1, it does’nt run on low speed but will run on high speed. I have changed the capacitors but this has made no difference. i am wondering if the fault is with the relay on the control board and wonder if they are interchangeable or is it a case of having to buy a whole new circuit board?

  40. Kevin Wiltshire, November 3, 2010:

Hi, i have a spaform 4000 and it kept blowing fuse, i pinpointed it down to the blower/heater etc, have changed it and not blowing fuses but jets 1 seem to be running all the time even in economy or sleep mode, any idea of what could be wrong, any ideas much appreciated

  41. Vaughan, March 5, 2011:

Hi I have recently obtained a Spaform Oslo which is a 1993 vintage. I understood it worked fine other than a “heating issue”. The hot tub pumps, and does all things it should, however, there are 4 light on the Spaform CP190-1 control box in the back panel. The lower two are “Heater” and Spa Heater” when the “Spa Heater” is light on the water does indeed warm up – but I cannot get the “Heater” light to come on under any condition.
    1) is the heater in this Oslo a twin element type – with one element not working perhaps. And do I need a replacement heater if so what is the model and type, Balboa?? and do you stock it?
    2) is there a cp190-1 control box cicuit diagram I can get hold of anywhere – happy to buy it if I can get a “manual” / cicuit diagram.
    any Ideas??
    thanks Vaughan

Hi – Not sure where my post went but here goes again!!

Got a Spaform Oslo 3000 giving an FL error.

    The two speed water pump…
Works on high speed (2nd setting)
On first setting the pump does not operate, all you get is a hum!

Hello. My recent bargain purchase of a spaform milano off ebay is turing out to be a very expensive pond. I have now replace both pumps and also the pcb.\r\nHowever due to my old pcb blowing I have checked the voltages coming out before plugging anything in. I have 240v coming to the low and high speed of the pump?? \r\nCan you help me to understand whether the pumps should come live on power up without touching the control panel.\r\nI have also ordered 2 new m7 sensors as I believe that there resistance was low at 0.04ohms? Would these cause the live out on low and high speed.\r\nThe reason for changing the pcb was due to the relay on the old board for the low speed had burnt out. Im guesssing that this is because it was getting a voltage to both low and high.\r\nThe pcb is a balboa 52604 licensed to spaform sf273.\r\nMy kindest thankyou\’s come forthcoming to your reponse
